This is a guest-post in the form of a written interview with Dr Yusuf Haffejee - a male Dental Surgeon and cupping therapist based in Leicester, England

Please give us a short introduction about yourself, and in particular how you ended up being a hijama therapist?

I am a practising dentist. I have special interest in natural remedies. I was influenced by a friend who had cupping done in Madina Munawwarah. I researched about hijama and was able to complete the course here in the UK.

What particular illnesses/ conditions (if any), do you specialise / had the most experience in?

I am confident in treating conditions like hypertension, backaches, migraine.

And do you find that in your experience, the conditions/illnesses that you have come across respond well to cupping (hijama) therapy? And if so, what are they?

The above conditions respond well to a series of treatments (a one off cupping session does not give you the desired result). Patients report a significant feeling of wellbeing.

Also what would you say about using cupping as a general preventative therapy and how often would you recommend this (once a month? once/twice a year?)

Cupping or hijama as a sunnah is recommended in the spring and the autumn.

As a hijama therapist, how often do you get hijama done yourself, and what for (if any specific condition) and who do you go to to get it done (since it is not an easy therapy to self-administer)?

Twice a year for sunnah
