Cupping (Hijama) In Its Time Is A Cure For Every Disease

Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, "Whoever performs cupping (hijama) on the 17th, 19th or 21st day (of the Islamic, lunar month) then it is a cure for every disease." [Saheeh Sunan abi Dawud (3861)].

The Best Days For Cupping (Hijama)

Ibn Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said, "Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach* is best. It increases the intellect and improves the memory. It improves the memory of the one memorising. So whoever is going to be cupped then on a Thursday in the name of Allaah.  Keep away from being cupped on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Be cupped on a Monday or Tuesday. Do not be cupped on a Wednesday because it is the day that Ayoub was befallen with the trial. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night." [Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3488)].
* 'alaa ar-reeq in arabic means to fast until after being treated with cupping. Once the treatment of cupping has been completed, one may eat and drink.
As for the Islamic day and night, the night enters before the day. So at sunset on Tuesday, Wednesday night comes in. Cupping (hijama) is best performed during the daytime between the athaan of fajr and the athaan of maghrib because yawm in arabic means daytime.
The Sunnah days for cupping (hijama) every month are when the 17th or 19th or 21st of the lunar month coincide with a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. These are the best and most beneficial days for cupping (hijama). If one is not able to be cupped on 17th, 19th or 21st (coinciding with Monday, Tuesday or Thursday) then any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday of the month.

Cupping (Hijama) For Women
Jaabir ibn Abdullah y reported Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) asked permission from the Messenger r to be treated with cupping (hijama). So the Messenger r ordered Abu Teeba t to cup her. Jaabir ibn Abdullah y said, " I think he r said that Abu Teeba t is her brother through breastfeeding or a young boy who didn't reach puberty". [Saheeh Muslim (5708), abu Dawud (4102), Saheeh ibn Maajah (3480)].

Dry and massage cupping may be performed at any time.

The Opening of Al-Asad Clinic & Hijama Centre in Karachi

The following is a guest blog-post in the form of a written interview with Hakim Muhammad Mustufa Baig & Dr. Nuzhat Mustufa a husband and wife team of cupping therapists in Karachi, Pakistan

- Please give us a short introduction about yourself, and in particular how you ended up being a hijama therapist?

We have done B.E.M.S (Bachelor of Eastern Medicine & Surgery) from Hamdard University, Karachi. It is a 5 years Degree Course of Hamdard University. As a part of our syllabus we studied all subjects related to Modern Medical Sciences along with herbal medicine and Tibb-e-Nabwi. We had a complete course on Regimental Therapies as well. Hijama, Massage, Leech Therapy, Cauterization, Baths (Hammams), Purgation are all part of Regimental Therapies. We have chosen Hijama along with Herbal Medicines as an effective mode of treatment.

- What particular illnesses/ conditions (if any), do you specialise / had the most experience in?

We have had experience in Depressed Immune systems, Blood pressure, migraine, allergy, back pain, Arthritis, Sciatica and in Chronic disorders. We do Hijjama in patient of low back pain, Sciatica, frozen shoulder, cervical spondylitis, hepatitis  & constipation. Specially Dr. Nuzhat has remarkable experience in Female Infetility & other Gynecological problems.

- And do you find that in your experience, the conditions/illnesses that you have come across respond well to cupping (hijama) therapy? And if so, what are they?

Migraine, Low back ache, frozen shoulder, depressed immune system, sciatica,& Gynecological problems, Infertility & Blood pressure respond well to Hijama therapy.

- Do you have any interesting case studies that you can briefly share with us from your Hijama Treatments?

I had an experience in Depressed Immune systems, a patient of mine is very sensitive to flu & cold in winter, even he got problems from a patient of flu from a distance. He got Hijama Therapy before winter and he came to me in spring season and told me that he found tremendous results from his last therapy as he did not get flu or fever throughout the season as Allah gave him Shifa from Hijama / Sunnah Therapy.

Dr. Nuzhat treated many cases of Infertility & other gynecological disturbances by Hijama & Herbal Medicines.

-Also what would you say about using cupping as a general preventive therapy and how would you recommend this (Once a month? Once / twice a year?)

Prevention is Better than Cure… I always recommend people to have Hijama Therapy on the 17th, 19th & 21st of Lunar Month, even if they are not sick. By reviving the Noble Act of Sunnah, Allah will give them Baraka in health and save them from ailments. One should take Hijama session atleast in 3 months time to get regular benefits in his or her life.

-As a Hijama therapist, how often do you get hijama done yourself, and what for (if any specific condition) and who do you go to to get it done (since it is not an easy therapy to self-administer)?

I am used to of taking regular Hijama sessions from Dr. Nuzhat (my wife)in every 3-4 months. It not only gives me relaxation but also boosts my immunity & energy levels.

- What is the overall prevalence of hijama therapy in Karachi, Pakistan? Is it available in hospitals and clinics as a valid alternative / sunnah therapy ?

Not yet, but people are asking about it. We are practicing Hijama and giving training as well. Doctors, Hakims, Homeopaths are doing Hijama therapy in their private clinics but at Hospital level it is not seen yet.

- Whereabouts is your clinic or practice located and what services do you offer?

Following is the address of our clinic, where we offer
Hijama Therapy & Training
Herbal Treatment
Massage Therapy
Yoga & Fitness Centre (Females Only)

Al-Asad Clinic & Hijama Centre
A-G-3, Farhan Heaven, Gulistan-e-Johar Block 17 near Johar Chowrangi, Karachi, Pakistan.

-Is there anything else you would like to add?

Of course, first I thanked Allah subhan-o-wata’ala, who gave us such knowledge which is beneficial for the mankind and gave us opportunity to spread it in our nation and muslim ummah.
Second, I really appreciate your work and dedication towards spreading and maintain this noble cause of reviving the forgotten act of Sunnah. May Allah gives His blessings on you & reward you in this world and in the Aakhirat. Aameen.

Prophetic Medicine Conference in London on 2nd June 2012

The following is an announcement by the Hijama Health Clinic in London, England:

An Unmissable one-day conference on the Medicine of the Prophet (SAW) At-Tibb An-Nabawi!

At a time when alternative medicine in the West has been growing, Western medicine questioned for its universality and the demand for effective health care remedies rises, a great opportunity has come for us to learn about the theory and application of medicine of the Prophet (sws), as taught to us by the Prophet (sws) himself. They deal with the treatment and cures for common and complex health disorders and restoration of health of heart/mind (qalb/aql), soul (ruh) and body (badan).

For the first time in the UK, this programme will be delivered by an internationally acclaimed professor, researcher and a widely respected speaker on Islamic Medicine, Physical Therapy and Complementary Medicine, Dr. Amir Saleh

The conference will aim to cover the following areas:

• What is Prophetic Medicine and what is its relevance in today’s
context?

• Can it co-exist with modern medicine and be compatible with
scientific medical research?

• What are the Prophetic foods and herbs and their nutritional benefits in the prevention and cure of disease?

• What are the medical and health benefits of Tahara, Wudu and Salah?

• What is the Sunnah of Hijama (Cupping) and its medical and health
benefits in the prevention and cure of disease?

• What is Spiritual Healing and what conditions is it considered for?

• What is Ar-Ruqyah Ash-Shariah (Qur’anic Healing Therapy)?

• How do we understand the effects of jinn affliction, black magic and
evil eye on our health and how do we protect ourselves from them?

• An amazing and groundbreaking research will also be presented for the first time on ‘Colour Therapy in the Quran’.
