Cupping Therapy in Shabaan and Ramadan in Germany by Amina Ather

The following is an announcement about Hijama in Germany by Dr Amina Ather, a female Hijama Practitioner in Germany

Cupping therapy - Purification of Soul, Detoxification of Body

A therapy which leads to purification of soul with detoxification of the body

What is cupping ?

Cupping is a non-invasive method to relive local congestion on the external surface of the underlying condition with application of concept of vacuum which is created either by heat or by suction.

History of cupping?

Documentations of its history begin from 1550 BC with the Egyptian civilization and then passing on the Greek region during Hippocrates which further followed towards the east through the Arab civilization by Avicenna and was imbibed with religious inference during the reign of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) which further fragranced into the silk route and had its roots to ancient Chinese civilization and presently being practise as a modality in traditional, complementary and alternate medicine.

Benefit of cupping ?

There are two types of cupping dry and wet , the benefit of cupping depends on the faith a person in the modality and according to the physical condition of the individual

Religious inference:

It is termed as Hijama (حجامة) which means sucking in Arabic. Cupping is used for the treatment of diseases of the blood, and as a therapeutic measure.

Several prophetic sayings are related in Sahih al Bukhari and in the collection of Ibn Maja, amongst others with regards to the benefits of cupping.

Ibn Abbaas also narrated that the beloved Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, “Blessed is a servant who practices cupping.

It cleanses the blood, dries out internal inflammations and brightens ones vision.” He (phuh) also said, “Cupping (Hijaama) is one of the best medicines.”

Cupping / Hijama is the best remedy recommended and used by the Messenger (saw).

The Messenger (saw) said, "Indeed the best of remedies you have is cupping / Hijama " [Saheeh al-Bukharee (5371)].

He also said that on the night of Israa (his ascension to the heavens) he  did not pass by an angel except that it said to him, "Oh Muhammad, order your Ummah (nation) with cupping / Hijama."[Saheeh Sunan Tirmidhee (3479)]

The best time to get cupping is during 3rd and 4th week of the lunar calendar and most preferred is eight month of the Islamic calendar which is “SHABAAN” this helps the person to prepare for “RAMADAN”

Case Study: Cupping and Herbal Treatment for Hypomenorrhea by Dr Nazri Nizar

The following is a hijama case study kindly contributed by Dr Nazri Nizar, a male cupping therapist from Colombo, Sri Lanka

Case Study: Cupping and Herbal Treatment for Hypomenorrhea by Dr Nazri Nizar

Patient: Female

Age: 28 years old

Place of treatment: Colombo, Sri Lanka

Cupping Treatment for: Hypomenorrhea

What is Hypomenorrhea?: A diminution of the flow or a shortening of the duration of menstruation (Definition of Hypomenorrhea taken from http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Hypomenorrhea)

I would like to share a recent case of a young Buddhist girl aged 28 years old, working as HR trainee in Colombo, who suffered from hypomenorrhoea which is a condition where menstrual flow is very scanty during the cycle and finally culminated in total menstrual stoppage for almost two years.

The parent of the girl had a miserable time when all the available treatment from western to Ayurveda failed to rectify. Al Hamdu Lillaah All Praise due to Allaah she got back the menstrual cycle back to normal after two years of total menstrual cease .

Our Treatment protocol was Dry cupping under the navel area 5 cups including one above the private part. The patient was feeling uncomfortable due to suction being maximum as it was necessary to induce blood flow in that area.

The patient was given twice a day womb cleaner for 30 days prepared by my good friend Dr Abu Bakr, here we can also give T19 instead. The patient informed me on the 27th day of the treatment, that she felt very comfortable when the menstrual blood started to come and the cycle is regulated now. Allaah Who Gave the cure for He is The Shaafi.
May Allaah Give Shifaa to all Ameen.

ICAHT Diploma Graduates become the first Government Regulated Clinical Hijama Practitioners in the UK under the GRCCT

The following is an announcement by Dr Rizwhan Suleman MChiro of the Institute of Clinically Applied Hijama Therapy, an organisation providing Hijama Training in UK

AFTER BECOMING THE 1ST GOVERNMENT APPROVED REGULATOR FOR CLINICAL HIJAMA THERAPY IN 2013 ICAHT REGISTERS ITS FIRST CLASS OF STUDENTS IN LINE WITH UK GUIDELINES

ICAHT Inaugural Graduation Ceremony

By the grace of God we have been honoured to present our very first class of students their Diploma Certification in clinical Hijama therapy. The first ever ICAHT graduation ceremony took place at the ICAHT Centre of Integrative Medicine and was held on Sunday the 27th of April 2014. The students who started the course in June 2013 had come a long way in the span of one year and this was evident from the level of both enthusiasm and professionalism that they delivered their final case presentations.

The presentations shortly began with an extraordinary level of passion and enthusiasm. The graduates explained how they had helped so many individuals by utilising the therapy. By sharing their case studies they initiated both intrigue and discussion in the class.  Witnessing the various approaches and also integration of other therapies and techniques, tutors and students alike were inspired by the various clinical applications of the therapy.

Over Lunch both tutors and students had a major catch up and it was encouraging to hear that Sr Kareema Crawford had set up a private clinic, Br Naveed Gul was in the final stages of setting up practice in a local pharmacy and Sister Durreshehwar Mirza had opened a professional government recognised clinic in the UAE.

We also had news that Ms Giovanna Recchia had become quite a popular Hijama practitioner and that the therapy had taken her to practice on patients across the oceans in the USA, Belgium, Italy and the UAE. For a non Muslim student who initially thought she would have difficulty finding 15 patients to write her case reports on she had done pretty well and described her non Muslim patients begging her to come back to provide more treatments. We also saw that there was a bridging of working relationships between the students of medical background and non medical backgrounds and that this generated fertile ground for the two groups to work together in clinical practice.

All members signed up to ICAHT professional membership making them the first Hijama practitioners in the UK to be practicing as registered and regulated practitioners in line with government guidelines.   ICAHT are officially registered with the GRCCT, a Federal regulatory body, as the lead body in the regulatory process for the practice of clinical Hijama therapy in the UK

The prize of best presentations was awarded to Br Naveed Gul of Birmingham who presented his cases in a very clinical and well-researched manner.

Best case report was awarded to sister Kareema Crawford of Leeds
had applied academic vigour to her case reports meticulously researching and referencing all of her statements.

Overall best Student was Awarded to Sr Durreshehwar Mirza an
experienced hijama practitioner from the U.A.E who consistently delivered in all aspects of the course.

CLINICAL HIJAMA THERAPY NOW REGULATED IN UK BY ICAHT UNDER THE GRCCT

To undergo Hijama therapy has been for many people in the UK quite a daunting task to undertake due to there being such a wide range and level of competency when it comes to practitioners. The lack of regulation has meant that anyone with the willingness to pick up a blade was able to put himself or herself forward as a hijama “specialist” and begin charging up to £70 per session to unknowing people in their community.

With no standardised level of education, understanding or knowledge of the human body, health and disease or even infection control people were often finding themselves in uncomfortable situations being treated by individuals that they could barely trust.

In 2013 ICAHT (the institute of clinically applied hijama therapy) gained a GRCCT appointed title as the Lead body for the practice of clinical hijama in the UK in line with government regulation and became the first fully registered professional association for self regulation in the field of Clinical hijama putting the level of regulation on par with that of the practice of Acupuncture.

ICAHT have set the minimum educational standard for the practice to include:

·         Over 100 hours of face to face teaching by qualified doctors
·         Comprehensive study of the human body from head to toe taught by a Qualified anatomist
·         Detailed study of physiology to understand exactly how the body works
·         Thorough study of pathology to include the various conditions and diseases that the body may encounter
·         A minimum of 50 hours of supervised clinical training where students are examined on their ability to treat real patients in a live teaching clinic

In addition to the advances that ICAHT have made with regulation, recent changes by insurance providers have meant that major insurance companies that insure complementary therapy practitioners have refused to insure practitioners who study hijama through online courses or single day /weekend workshops.

One of the leading insurers state, that practitioners being insured under the practice of hijama therapy must have undergone at least a 6 months course of face to face study in the field of hijama therapy and must have undergone at least 100 hours of class room teaching that includes a level of study in human anatomy and physiology.

In line with these changes ICAHT have guaranteed that all practitioners registered and regulated with their organisation will not only be trained to the required minimal standard of education but will have also been verified to be insured with at least £4million of professional indemnity insurance cover to safely practice in the UK.

ICAHT professional members are also subject to a regulatory process and agree to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct. If they are ever thought to have broken this strict code, a complaints procedure and policy is in place to take forward an investigation into these claims. Each member has a unique registration number that can be checked and verified on the www.ICAHT.co.uk website and all practitioner members are encouraged to display their certificates on site for patients to see.
